Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy

Pelvic Floor Physiotherapists are trained to perform internal pelvic examination, assess and treat pelvic floor muscle dysfunction and help treat conditions such as pelvic pain, urinary incontinence, fecal incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, painful intercourse, urgency and frequency.
Pelvic floor muscle training has been shown to decrease urinary incontinence in women and should be used as first line of treatment for urinary incontinence and pelvic pain syndromes (such as bladder pain syndrome or interstitial cystitis, prostate pain syndrome and vulva pain syndrome). Pelvic floor muscle training has been shown in recent studies to improve incontinence in men post-prostatectomy.
Treatment includes lower body evaluation, internal pelvic examination, pelvic floor muscle training, relaxation, stretches, behavioral therapy, trigger point release, biofeedback, muscle stimulation and acupuncture. Pre-natal education and Prostatectomy pre and post education are also available.
Biofeedback can be used to help clients understand how to be in touch with their pelvic muscles and perform their exercises more effectively.
Acupuncture can also be used to treat pelvic pain, retention, urgency and frequency and other conditions that may affect the bladder or the pelvis.
