Acupuncture and IMS

Acupuncture and IMS

Acupuncture is an ancient form of Chinese medicine that involves the insertion of solid acupuncture needles into the skin at specific points in the body to achieve a therapeutic effect. It is safe and effective, and often a successful alternative to medications or even surgery.  Common conditions treated include: low back pain, joint pain, muscle pain or tension, frozen shoulder, reflex sympathetic dystrophy and countless other ailments.  For more information, please visit the website www.afcinstitute.com.  To book an appointment using acupuncture treatment, please request Physiotherapists Tiphanie or Margherita at the Panorama location.  Physiotherapist Samantha also offers acupuncture to treat urinary retention, urgency and pain at the Ocean Park location.

IMS or Intramuscular Stimulation, is a dry needling treatment for chronic pain developed by Dr. Chan Gunn to treat the pain that arises in muscles when the nerves, which supply those muscles, become dysfunctional. The technique requires the placement of thin, flexible needles into muscles. The treatment is different than acupuncture, even though similar needles are used in both.  Tyler is a certified Gunn IMS Practitioners, and can offer this service at both clinic locations. Eric, TiphanieMonica, Ravi, Jeff, Margherita and  Madison are all certified with the Kinetacore Functional Dry Needling (similar to IMS) method as well.  For more information on IMS, please visit: http://www.istop.org/ims.html.

Acupuncture and IMS services may be offered in conjunction with your regular Physiotherapy treatment as deemed appropriate by your Therapist. There is no surcharge for IMS or acupuncture treatment.
