A (busy, fun, growing!) Year in Review
Staying true to our mission, we were fully committed to all-around excellence in 2011. Here are some highlights of the past year. As you can see, we took courses, achieved certifications, were active in and around the Cloverdale/ Surrey/ White Rock communities, and selectively hired more of the best and brightest Physiotherapists out there!
- January: Avid cyclist and journalist Jeffrey Hansen-Carlson had a bike fit done at Physiomoves and wrote about it: http://www.leaderpost.com/bike+must+fitted+rider/4099730/story.html
- February: Physiomoves therapists attended a K-Taping course and now have the brightly
coloured K-Tape in stock to tape up your body parts that require support.
- March/April: Jody, Johnny and Tyler attended an intensive course learning the Functional Movement Screen and Selective Functional Movement Assessment. This has been helpful when working with athletes and communicating with their coaches and personal trainers. http://functionalmovement.com/fms
- May: Tyler was interviewed on the Not Quite South Surrey.com website as a community profile, and Physiomoves gave away a prize pack as part of a monthly contest. Check out their informative and amazing website and facebook page! http://www.notquitesouthsurrey.com/1439/get-to-know-tyler-from-physiomoves-physiotherapy-clinic/
- June: Tyler's expertise on bike fit was featured in a Vancouver Sun article on June 2,2011 http://www.canada.com/vancouversun/news/westcoastnews/story.html?id=03d41d49-449d-4d48-a75c-2ac1203e2c5a.
Tyler's knowledge of body mechanics, bike fit and injury prevention was videotaped and is now a permanent feature on the informative healthchoices.ca website: http://www.healthchoicesfirst.com/video/cycling/lower-back-pain-and-cycling (there are many others besides this video)
We attended the YMCA Healthy Kids Day and sponsored the Sandcastle City Classic 10km road race in June as well.- July: Our baseball pro, Johnny volunteered at the Canada Cup Softball tournament
- September: Tiphanie Ge joined our Physiotherapy team. Tiphanie is proving to be a major asset at Physiomoves. She is calm and knowledgeable, which works especially well with children and older adults. She is just about licensed to perform acupuncture, something Physiotherapist Kristen (Pummell) Hoffman has been doing at our clinic since she passed all her exams in June 2011. September also saw Kristen tie the knot!
- October: Our team provided free massages and education to everyone at the Peace Arch Hospital Foundation Great Pumpkin Run- what a beautiful, fun day!
- November: Johnny, Barry and Tyler sported moustaches and raised over $300 for movember.ca. Thanks for all the votes! Physiomoves helped sponsor the entertainment at the well attended, much loved "Santa at Sullivan" event.
- December: As if our team wasn't already great, we welcomed Christine (De Pape) Campbell to our team permanently, a former national level Field Hockey player and experienced Physiotherapist. We are also ecstatic to have Jessica Deglau on our team for locum work. Jessica is an international swimming sensation, having competed in the 1996 and 2000 Olympic Games!
Thank you to all our clients, friends and professional colleagues who trust Physiomoves to help move their bodies better. We are excited to help you stay injury free and achieve all your health goals for 2012!

Acupuncture now provided by Physiotherapist Kristen Pummell!
Congratulations to Kristen Pummell, who successfully passed the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute written and practical exams this spring. Kristen is excited to expand her physical therapy services by offering acupuncture to clients at Physiomoves. Kristen has been a Physiotherapist at Physiomoves since 2008, and we are proud of her latest accomplishment.Acupuncture is an ancient form of Chinese medicine that involves the insertion of solid acupuncture needles into the skin at specific points in the body to achieve a therapeutic effect. It is safe and effective and often a successful alternative to medications or even surgery. For more information, please visit the website www.afcinstitute.com.

What's up in June
- Clinic owner Tyler Dumont was featured in the June 2 Vancouver Sun, p. A13 along with PABC CEO, Rebecca Tunnacliffe. The web feature doesn't show the great photo unfortunately, but it's still a great article!http://http://www.vancouversun.com/news/todays-paper/fitted+bike+reduce+pain/4879254/story.html
- We say a fond farewell to Heather, who has been at Physiomoves part time since October 2010. We welcome Jonathan, who is here covering Johnny's clients for the month while Johnny is travelling abroad.
- Physiomoves will be at the YMCA Healthy Kids Day on Sat. June 4 from 10-3pm for the 4th consecutive year. We are proud to support this fantastic community event that promotes healthy active living for all families. Come by and say hi with your kids!
- We will have our tent up for the 3rd year at the Sandcastle 10km road race on White Rock beach on Sunday, June 12. Free post-race massage offered. Why not give this beautiful race a try? www.sunrunners.ca
- Don't forget we have a brand new flat screen TV that will have ALL the Stanley Cup hockey action on. So don't worry about that Physio appointment booked during a game- we'll have the game on and popcorn ready to go!

a few kind words and an orange (ball)
Since the month of May is National Physiotherapy month, the wonderful team behind www.notquitesouthsurrey.com offered to do an article about clinic owner Tyler Dumont and Physiomoves. It's under the section "Get to Know..." (http://www.notquitesouthsurrey.com/1439/get-to-know-tyler-from-physiomoves-physiotherapy-clinic/ ) and it's a great article about our fearless leader. What was even more wonderful than the article were the amazing comments that were submitted by a few individuals, including current clients and local reputable personal trainers. They took the time to write really positive messages about the entire team at Physiomoves, and it makes us feel very proud (and grateful for such amazing people to treat and work with in this community!)Take a moment to read it if you get a chance (called "Get to know...Tyler from Physiomoves Physiotherapy Clinic"). And feel free to add your comments here or at the end of the article. It may even win you a prize! This month we are giving away a prize on behalf of the http://www.notquitesouthsurrey.com/ website, including an orange therapy ball, foam roller and a free massage from our RMT Barry Bereziak for anyone who leaves any comments on that fantastic website.
